Designing a postal stamp series celebrating cultural identity through type and illustration

MOCCASIN STAMP SERIES

My roles:  Designer, Art Director, Editor

My contributions & impact:
Created a cohesive series of USPS stamps inspired by Native American moccasins, emphasizing their unique patterns and shapes. Conducted in-depth research to understand how each tribe expresses its identity through moccasin design.

The Challenge: How might I design a series of stamps that showcases the uniqueness of each tribe's moccasins, particularly their distinctive shapes and patterns, while maintaining visual cohesion and clarity in a small format?

The Outcome: The final stamp series uses single-line illustrations paired with symbolic shadow patterns to celebrate the craftsmanship and cultural significance of Native American moccasins. The grayscale palette adds timelessness and emotion, while the grid-like layout ensures visual harmony across the series. These stamps provide a platform for honoring often overlooked aspects of U.S. culture.
