Designing a postal stamp series celebrating cultural identity

MOCCASIN STAMP SERIES

My roles:  Designer, Art Director, Researcher

The Challenge: How might I design a series of stamps that showcase a culture different from my own lived experience while maintaining visual cohesion and clarity in a small format?

The Outcome: These stamps provide a platform for honoring often overlooked aspects of U.S. culture. I conducted in-depth research to understand how each tribe expresses its identity through moccasin design. The final stamp series uses single-line illustrations paired with symbolic shadow patterns to celebrate the craftsmanship and cultural significance of Native American moccasins. The color palette pulls from my research of the beading that is on the moccasin, while the grid-like layout ensures visual harmony across the series.
