Designing a postal stamp series celebrating indigenous cultural identity
MOCCASIN STAMP SERIES
My roles: Illustrator, Graphic Designer, Researcher
The Challenge: How might I design a series of stamps that showcase a culture different from my own lived experience while maintaining clarity in a small format?
The Outcome: Postage stamps provide a platform for honoring often overlooked aspects of U.S. culture. I conducted in-depth research to understand how each indigenous tribe expresses its identity through their moccasins. The final stamp series uses single-line illustrations paired with symbolic shadow patterns. The color palette pulls from my research of the beading that is on the moccasin, while the grid-like layout ensures visual cohesion across the series.
