My roles: Interviewer, Typeface Designer

My contributions & impact:
Designed a custom typeface inspired by a professor within the S.I. Newhouse School, reflecting her personality, profession, and style. Conducted observations and interviews to understand her further, focusing specifically on her love of horses.

Creating a typeface that reflects my professor’s personality

HOOVED

The Challenge: How might I create an entire type system that represents someone’s complex identity without making it overly complicated, making sure it remains functional and visually cohesive?

The Outcome: The final typeface takes a symbolic approach that honors the professor’s identity while showcasing intentional design choices like incorporating horse-inspired elements such as hooves, necks, tails, and ears into the letterforms. I used Glyphs Mini to design each letter and finalized the typeface as a complete system. Brought the design process full circle by 3D printing a favorite letter and gifting it to the professor.
