Creating a typeface that reflects my professor’s personality

HOOVED

My roles: Digital Typeface Developer & Designer

The Challenge: How might I create an entire type system that represents a professor’s identity, making sure it remains functional and visually cohesive?

The Outcome: By conducting observation and interviews to understand the professor further, I focused specifically on her love of horses. I named the final typeface HOOVED, taking a symbolic approach that honors her identity. I intentionally designed each letter incorporating horse-inspired elements such as hooves, necks, tails, and ears into the letterforms. I used Glyphs Mini to design this and finalized the typeface as a complete system. I brought the design process full circle by 3D printing a favorite letter and gifting it to her.
