Showcasing motion design projects completed between Aug - Dec 2024
My roles: Motion Designer, Storyboard Artist
The Outcome: Through a few projects, I learned and applied animation techniques in Adobe After Effects, specifically focused on keyframing, animatics, and storyboarding.

PICK OUT OF A HAT & CREATE A HYPOTHETICAL NETFLIX MOVIE
I picked: Set in Miami, Science Fiction Genre, Audience of 18-25 year olds. I first storyboarded a 30 second trailer and a 30 second title sequence on paper. Then, I knew I wanted to explore AI prompting to create the video clips & sound I brainstormed. After lots of trial and error, I compiled all the clips together and used my new motion design skills as well as video editing skills to create the teaser and title sequence. I also created a promotional poster and a title card for Netflix for fun.

Short Motion Challenges
I tracked the skateboarder in the video, then attached the text so it could follow that motion perfectly. Using After Effects’ built-in tracker, I captured movement data from the footage and link it to graphic layers. This keeps everything feeling connected, even when the scene moves or shakes.
TRACKING
I added bounce and energy to the animation by stretching and squashing shapes as they move. I animated the scale and anchor point properties to compress and elongate shapes at key moments for impact. It’s a simple trick, but it makes everything feel more lively and real
SQUASH & STRETCH
I used “easy ease” to smooth out the swipes so the screen doesn’t just start and stop suddenly instead it just gently speeds up and slows down. I did this by adjusting the speed curves of keyframes in After Effects’ graph editor to control the acceleration and deceleration. Tweaking these curves helps everything move naturally and keeps the eye engaged.
